IDPF have announced that the new EDUPUB Profile for EPUB, a semantically-enhanced profile of EPUB 3 for e-textbooks and other learning content, is now available for a 30 day public review. Member and public comments on the draft specification are solicited through August 28, 2015 and IDPF members are invited to submit comments via the IDPF EPUB Working Group mailing list
Publiwide, a technology startup based in Switzerland, has recently launched an online software application to edit, enhance and enrich your EPUB 3 eBooks. Their new EPUB 3 Plus cloud-based software offers the ability to manage both reflow and fixed-layout eBooks with a simple interface to manage and edit content.
The IDPF co-sponsored a one-day conference in Brussels on June 29 with the Interinstitutional Digital Publishing Committee of the EU, an important Europe-wide activity led by a recent IDPF member, the EU Publications Office. It was an invitation-only event designed to provide an opportunity for institutional publishers to hear about important technologies and trends, learn about best practices and success stories, and share experiences.
EPUBZone can report that Apple's latest version of iBooks Author 2.3 now includes new EPUB templates. These new templates allow content to be exported to EPUB 3 to create media-rich, reflowable ebooks which can be viewed in any ebook reader that supports EPUB 3.

The recent IDPF Digital Book 2015 conference at BookExpo America 2015 was another successful instalment of IDPF's flagship annual event. Nearly 1,000 attendees gathered in New York City's Javits Center Special Events Hall on May 27 for the opening plenary, which for the first time was part of the opening day of BEA itself.
June 29 sees the gathering of a broad range of institutions at this one day conference in Brussels. IDPF are delighted to be co-organizers of this event alongside the Interinstitutional Digital Publishing Committee of the EU where delegates can look forward to an intensive day discussing challenges and opportunities that today's dynamic publishing ecosystem presents.
The IDPF are delighted to congratulate The Electronic Book Publishers Association of Japan on the release of the EPUB 3 File Creation Guide version 1.1.3 in Japanese on November 13, 2014 together with a minor update in January, 2015. An English version has also been made available this April.
